Taking Chances

Image
The actual direction of where our lives will go is something everyone wants to know. However, no matter how we try, we can never fathom everything on it. We pray and hope for better things to come. Sometimes, we simply take chances. What are chances? This is what I will tackle in this blogpost. This is quite reflective of where I am today in my life and will definitely serve as a guide in the future for decision-making and career planning. Hence, these are the three important assumptions about chances: Chances are options. People who seems depressed and hopeless simply run out of options in solving one's problem. Everything is perceived to be tough and impossible in these people's minds. On the contrary, these individuals really have options, but they are not willing to make the chance. This is because they do not have the courage to take responsibility of the possible outcomes their decisions would yield. Thus, it does not matter how many good options we have in finding sol...

What is Cheap or Expensive?

Image
Everyday, we spend for things and think of worth of the expenses we make. However, is there a general rule of what is cheap or expensive? Should we have an idea of a limitation, then we could guide or limit ourselves from buying unnecessary things. In my personal experience, the concept of what is cheap or expensive lies on three values, namely (1) daily gross salary, (2) weekly gross salary and (3) monthly gross salary. By saying gross salary, it refers to the amount before tax and other deductions. Say for example, you work five times a week and earning 1200 everyday, so your weekly gross salary is 6000 and the estimated monthly gross salary is 24000. The following simply guides will help one in evaluating good spending habits: Daily Gross Salary The daily salary must be divided by a constant six or seven to get the approximate hourly gross salary. For example, a1200-daily salary will yield an estimated 200 hourly salary. 200 represents a benchmark for ordinary single purchases. ...

Being an Instrument for Change

Image
Change is a risk. This is what a learn from all the experiences I had. Although not everyone desires to take risks, change itself is inevitable and necessary for improvement of oneself and the society in general. In the process of initiating change, there are individuals who act as change agents that facilitates, hastens and ensures the changes that are needed to be done. In my previous experiences, I have acted as a change agent but not all the time, the outcomes and perception are the same. In this blogpost, I would sum up in the simplest way possible the different faces of being an instrument for change. Change is necessary, but people either opposes or neglects it. I remember one meeting I attended and unexpectedly presided, when I was supposed to discuss and justify the necessary change for the organization I worked for. I was quite prepared for the reasons for change. However, what I was not prepared was when the my older colleagues started hurling personal attacks against my ...

5000-hour Work Stages Theory

Image
Has there a time when you were working and you realized that you had enough of it? That point happens when an individual clamors to change either partly or wholly the nature and objectives of one's job. Personally, I have experienced that and I got to describe how things have been before the period of "exhaustion" took place and the need for work  change occurred. In this blogpost, I will describe how I personally experienced the different stages of working regardless of where and the nature of work. Stage 1: The Beginning (1 to 1250 hours) Every new beginning is characterized by extraordinary situations, which require one to adapt and learn in the most efficient possible. Being new in a work place does not merely involve one to know, understand and perform the tasks expected for a certain position, it also requires one to fit to the existing social structures within the organization. Whether one agrees to the organizational culture or not, one must find himself or her...

5 Points on Attraction Between Opposites

Image
Opposite attracts they say. Some psychologists point out that couples, who are more likely similar from each other are likely to end relationships in the long run. It is quite understandable that people likes to be challenged by the difference that exists within relationships and somehow find ways to "patch" them up. This could be one of the reasons why opposite seems not just to attract, but they last longer. However, this would be challenged by some, who seem to find their so-called soulmates. These people claims the other provides an extension of themselves as more similarities exists, rather than difference. So, in this blogpost, I would try to see five perspectives of relationships that are considered filled with differences to see how this type of relationships are realized in the society. Here are the five considerations on relationships between "opposites": 1. Differences should still be within comfort and convenience. The greatest advantage of difference...

Taking Selfies: Not a Psychiatric Disorder

Image
Recently, my attention was caught by a viral post that claims American Psychiatric Association (APA) confirming taking selfies as a disorder. The articles even named the abnormality as "selfitis". This pushed me to conduct my search and I found out in the website of APA even has no search results for either "selfie" or "selfitis". This means that the circulating published articles are technically not true. However, in this blogpost, I will try to find deeper perspective of the "selfie" trend for I myself is sometimes guilty of posting multiple pictures of myself in very similar poses in social media, either in Facebook, Instagram, Google plus or any platform. A 10-point summary will be attempted in this article to shed light on taking selfies. 1. Selfies are not really acts of capturing a personal experience, but a cry for self-recognition. It is a basic need of everyone for one's self-worth be acknowledged. People take chances for others t...

7 Thoughts about High IQ Score

Image
Many of former students had asked me on what is my IQ (Intelligence Quotient). Perhaps, they became curious about it after I taught them for quite some time. It is difficult to answer such question because I took several IQ examinations of varying scope and realibility. However, it might be safe to say my IQ is superior, which is within 120 to 130. Interestingly, many have contrasting concepts and thoughts about having high IQ.  In this blog post, I would attempt to shed light on these thoughts and perhaps misconceptions, as well as relate them to my personal experience. I would rather than describe and explain, but I do not intend to establish causal association between one's IQ level and their performance in either in life or certain aspects of it. 1. IQ fluctuates with age. IQ is the ratio between an individual's estimated mental age and actual age. Statistically speaking, IQ is influenced by the actual age, which happens to be the divisor of the IQ equation. This means t...

30 Ways to Relax Easily

Image
The need to relax is becoming more essential in the midst of the pressure in the external environment. It has perhaps one of the basic needs but stated implied among the hierarchy of needs for it can be considered a physiologic need but has strong association with the other higher level necessities. In this blogpost, I will try to exhaust myself in creating a list on how to feel relaxed. My objective to aid people to relax easily and perhaps immediately after they have gained awareness of this article. Here are some of my tips: 1. Control your hand gestures. Your hands shiver or sweat as a manifestation of anxiety. Do simple mind exercises geared towards controlling your fine motor skills. 2. Breathe deeply and abdominally. Be conscious breathing especially when you are about to sleep or in the middle of a stressful situation. Imagine cool air coming in, while warm body heat goes out. 3. Soothe and pamper your skin. This can be done through shower, massage or simply skin-to skin co...

When I Suddenly Stop Worrying Anymore

Image
Here comes a point in my life that I no longer worry about what the future brings. Ironically, I think of all possibilities and consequences my actions would bring but on this period of my life, most of the things I am concerned of are things that out of my control, I simply rest my mind and try to do the next course of action, regardless of its impact to myself and perhaps my immediate surroundings. There are three reasons why I suddenly made up my mind not to worry and be less anxious about inevitable events in the present times and the immediate past as well. 1. I am now semi-numb of all the significant events that came. Imagine all the aspects of your life being tested simultaneously, such that one loses focus on what to prioritize in a day. Physically, I am nearing the point of exhaustion, but I do not have a choice but to continue still. Living seems monotonous that mentally, I see no mental challenge for my thoughts and creativity to be triggered. On the other hand, emoti...
